Namecheap Reviews of 2021

Namecheap Overview

Namecheap was founded in 2001 by Richard Kirkendall, the company’s current CEO. As you may have been able to tell from the name, they started as a domain registration provider, but they now offer many other services as well.

The company is based in Phoenix, Arizona, where a team of more than 1,000 employees provides their customers with low-cost domain registration, hosting, SSL certificates, and more.

Domain and Hosting

Namecheap offer free domain name registration. They also a hosting provider that offers a wide variety of web hosting options. WhoisGuard for keeping your personal information private, and a robust customer support knowledge base.

Namecheap is best known as a domain registrar, but its web hosting plans might catch your eye, too. A year of shared hosting for just $1.44 a month – really?

This ‘only’ gets you 20GB storage and 30 email accounts, but that’s enough for many sites, and there are plenty of other highlights: unmetered bandwidth, a free domain name with privacy protection, a free website builder, easy installation of WordPress and hundreds of other popular apps, free integration with Supersonic CDN, the industry-standard cPanel control panel, 24/7 support via live chat, and a 30-day money-back guarantee.

All plans give you the choice of hosting in a UK or US data center. That’s an unusual plus, although the UK hosting will cost you $1 a month extra.

Namecheap subscription options:

  • 1 month plan – $2.88 per month ($2.88 total cost)

There are a few catches. You get free PositiveSSL certificates for year one, for instance, and 50% off the renewal price for year two, but after that you’ll have to pay extra. Right now, that’s $8.88 a year, or $0.74 extra a month. The free domain name only applies to particular TLDs: .fun, .host, .online, .site, .press, .store, .space, .pw, .tech, .website.

Although the website says you get twice-weekly backups, the small print warns that this ‘isn’t guaranteed.’

And that $1.58 price includes a 50% discount for the first year, too, and you’ll pay $2.88 after that.

Namecheap Hosting Plans

Whether you are looking for a cheap way to host your personal website or want to start a white label hosting company, Namecheap has a plan for you.

Let’s take a look at all the hosting plans they have to offer:

Shared Hosting Plans

When it comes to shared hosting, which involves a number of sites sharing one server, Namecheap has several options to choose from.

They offer three plans, starting at $1.58 per month.

The Stellar plan is their most affordable option. It offers 20 GB of disk space, unmetered bandwidth, access to Namecheap’s website builder, and the choice of either a US or UK datacenter (you’ll need to pay $1 more per month for a UK datacenter).

The Stellar Plus plan, touted as their most popular option, offers unlimited disk space and websites.

Stellar Business is advertised as the top option for e-commerce sites, and this plan offers 50 GB of disk space. Namecheap’s servers are also PCI-compliant, so you won’t need to worry about that.
